"Hello World" is one of the simplest programs that most students write when first learning a programming language. Similarly, this post will be my quintessential "Hello World."
I've never really blogged, I've written a few posts here and there on my websites and predominantly on other people's sites. In the end, I usually wipe my sites clean, thinking of starting a new, with dedicated purpose but failing to meet that purpose before diving into something bigger and often less important. I can't tell you how many times I've started web sites of my own, just to come back 6 months later, wiping the slate clean with ambitions of doing it right. This approach has served unsuccessful for me many a times. I always start with the graphics, layout, theme and features. I know better, I designed and developed websites for several years before returning to school to finally finish a degree.
A website should be built around its content and not the content around the site. With that essential concept in mind, I've decided I would use the most basic and default theme that ships with my favorite CMS/Web Framework, Drupal.
I choose to use Garland as I feel it is one of the more comprehensive themes in that a lot of items have already been considered for display. While the look is somewhat boring and overly popular, it is the most accommodating right out of the box. This is great for me, as I work to build my site's content. Once my content has been established and I determine what features I actually need and will use, I will at that point give this site its own look and feel. Until that point, I don't know what the look and feel should be, though I can probably make some relatively decent guesses and predictions.
If you have ideas that you might would like to see on this site let me know. Be creative, suggest themeing ideas or topics, I would like my posts to serve more than a memory or an archival location for myself. Ideally I would like my site to be useful to others, a place where people can come to learn about such things as programing, electronics, and web development and occasionally maybe other topics that I am involved in, baking, photography, graphic design and even cycling. That's a tall order I know, and with school and my previous track record don't be overly optimistic. All too often, I find myself absorbed by school, work and my other interests.
